Over the years, I have discovered that our relationship with God is somewhat similar to the relationship we have with someone we love, check this out...
You have been in school for a while and all this time one girl has taken you aback, she does not know you and if she does, she probably just heard about you because you are quite popular but she has never really had a personal encounter with you. You observe her for a while, you know her name, to you its love from the start!
(He loved us before we loved Him-1st John 4:19, He knew you before you knew Him...before you were born even!- Jeremiah 1:5)
So you begin your pursuit, you talk to her, send her messages, even pass your regards through people. Your love letter to her is a whole book. You make known to her how much you love her.
(Jeremiah 31:3 The Lord appeared to us in the past saying; I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving kindness. ...n yup He shares His love message for us through the bible, friends and the church)
She on the other hand is scared of commitment, she doesn’t want to settle right now, she thinks life with you is boring and too defined. She has the fun side of life to explore first. So you wait in love.
(Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me. Rev 3:20)
Thing is, when she is in trouble or down, she comes running to you because she knows you will always be there for her,..Then fun times come and she sticks around a bit but eventually goes running off with the other guy. The one who made her cry in the first place!
After a while, she warms up to the idea of a relationship with you a bit...then more excuses come. -“I’m not good enough, I’m a mess! Let me change some things in my life, then I’ll come when I’m changed and ready”.
You say, you have always loved her just as she is, and you shall help her change.
(Isaiah 1:18 Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool... 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” )
So she gets into a relationship and you rejoice coz of how much you love her
(Luke 15:10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”)
N voila, the lifelong changing relationship begins...
